We hope you are having a great summer.
We are now 1 year out from the devastating fire that destroyed our curling club.
We know that information has been very slow and very sporadic in coming to you all. Thank you very much for your patience. We have seen some movement within the past month that we can pass along.
The Board has been working on the plans moving forward. The biggest part to date is the Insurance. Looks like we are close to getting a settlement from the insurance company. We have been going back and forth with them for the last year. We are hoping that this will be settled in the near future. Our estimation will be in about a month or maybe two.
For those of you that had equipment in the lockers, we included that in the contents insurance claim. This is separate from the building replacement insurance. We have been going back and forth with the Insurance and the value of this claim as well. When this is settled, then we can pay out those monies as well to the member that had personal effects in there.
On top of all that, we have met with town officials about 5-6 times so far. As most of you know, the town is planning a recreation centre for the area that our club was located. We are in talks with the town on how the new curling rink will be part of the plans.
Be rest assured, that our club will be rebuilt. The board members have been working extremely hard and have put many hours in this process. With the current timeline, we are hoping that we will reopen in a new building for the 2024/25 season, 2 years out.
We need to have an AGM this fall to be able to continue to run as a society. We need to pass our financials and vote in board members. If you are interested in joining, please let us know your interest. We will do this mid-September. Time and Date to be determined. We will have an in person meeting, so that we can answer questions as well.
All that were members in the last operational season 2020/21, are all still current members. So you have voting rights and can be part of the information session. I would encourage all to attend.
Lastly, we have been told by AGLC that we are scheduled for a casino late this year, maybe early 2023. We can use the funds for the rebuild or buying equipment. When we get dates, we hope that we can get people to volunteer to help out with this extremely important fundraiser.
Thank you so much and have a great summer
