All,
We all hope you had a great curling season, no matter where you decided to curl this past year.
We wanted give an update since it has been a while. Our Board is still working extremely hard planning our future in our community. In fact we just had a board meeting last weekend to continue the planning process. We had directors go to clubs to look at them in more detail. We also had directors talk to other club board members. We have also had lots of communication with the Town of Stony Plain.
Insurance:
We had a lot of communication with our adjuster. We have received a letter from the Insurance Company agreeing to the amount of our building for the rebuild. However, we are still working with them on how and when this is going to be paid out, these details are not in the letter. The process has been very frustrating, but we are finally making headway.
New Facility:
As some of you might know, the town of Stony Plain is still planning on building their recreation centre. On Feb 13th, the town had a council meeting where town management presented the current facility plan with updated costs. Three board members went in person to the meeting to show support for the facility. For this meeting, WCC supplied a letter of our intent to help fund the curling rink with our insurance money. The town did vote to keep going as is with the new budget. We were told previously that the curling rink is going to be part of the plan, but still needed the official vote. They officially gave approval that the rink is part of Phase 1. We don't have a confirmed opening date as of now, but will keep you informed once we know more.
Here is the town's News Release if you did not see it: https://www.stonyplain.com/en/news/administration-provides-update-on-recreation-centre.aspx
The Architect had a 3D rendering that was presented with the curling rink part of the plan. You can see information regarding the facility in the Agenda from Feb 13th. The information starts on page 68. The renderings are not exactly what it looks like, it is just conceptual. A lot of changes are being made.

After the council meeting and approval, the architect has now started work on detail design of the facility.
We are going to start new fundraising shortly. With going to 6 sheets, we will need additional funds to buy everything we need. As our insurance will cover 4 sheets. For example: rocks.
Thank you for reading this,
